In spite of last year’s turbulence, I think CCRW ended the year on the highest of notes. Anyone who attended the Christmas/Installation Luncheon, or even read the lovely write up in the Nevada Appeal (Thank You Sandy Markoe!) knows how much our club has accomplished, and the individuals who were responsible and deserving of the praise and awards received. I could not be more proud of this club, even if it didn’t mean conquering the Fresh Hell that was 2020. My hat is off to all the women who made this happen, with elan.
There will be no NvFRW Leadership Training this year, once again due to COVID restrictions. That being said, Nevada Federation President Janet Freixas has agreed to speak at our January Luncheon. As we solidify our plans for the year with some new committee chairs, the timing is perfect for her to explain the significance of what we accomplish under the umbrella of the National Federation of Republican Women. Nancy Dallas will be emailing every member soon with board approved Bylaw changes, and we will vote to approve them at the meeting so please keep an eye out on your inbox so we can finally put that business to bed.
The next legislative session begins in February. There are no dumb questions about how laws are passed, and none of us are born with this knowledge. We invited our new National Committeeman Jim DeGraffenreid to speak about the process, and the man is a wealth of information. As our party is still in the Minority in both houses, tactical finesse will be of the essence and nobody understands this, and the players, like DeGraffenreid.
Our new, and the first woman Mayor of Carson City, is our own Lori Bagwell. I know I’ve said this before but my heart almost exploded with joy when she was elected. As a Supervisor, she primed our beautiful city for one which she will run with mastery. She will be our speaker in March, and I could not be more proud to be a registered voter in Carson City, and to represent CCRW at her swearing in on Monday, January 4th.
Stay warm, healthy, and answer your phone when we call to see if you’d be interested in rolling up your sleeves for CCRW. We will be looking for committee members and chairs for 2021. We did a great job overcoming last year’s obstacles, and this year is going to be even better.
Warmest Nevada Regards,
Sherese Settelmeyer, President, CCRW
